Joomla 1.0.15
Modified JSEducation Template

I have two problems with the new component & module:

Problem 1: Component

I just upgraded from ZWeather beta 5.02 to stable 6.0.1. The install was successful, and I re-installed the jos_zweather table in my database to restore my weather points (they display correctly in the new module).

When I try to access the component, either by menu item or via the link in the module, I am given the following error message:

Z Weather is not available from this page.
Please access Z Weather from a menu item instead.

I cannot access the component by either the menu item or module link. What do I need to change in order to open the component?

Problem 2: Module

I also upgraded the ZWeather module from beta 5 to 6.0.0. The module works perfectly until I try to show information in the "Overlib with link". If I activate these fields, the information shows up in the module position itself upon page load instead of opening a pop-up box on mouse over.

I upgraded from the previous versions just to have this mouse-over functionality.

Thanks for the great product. Even if I cannot get these newer versions to work properly, I'll go back to the previous versions and be happy with them.

Problem 1 is easy. You need to recreate the menu item as explained in this tech note:

www.zcontent.net/support/3-z-weather/14-...lable-from-this-page

Problem 2 is tougher. I have not heard of this problem, but I suspect that it may be related to the Joomla template. You could try publishing it in a different area or at the top of a module location to see if the behavior changes. You could also create a second module for testing, and simplify the output to see if one of the Z Weather settings is causing the issue. For example, uses just one location and one weather type (current conditions only, or 1 day weather forcast only) and work up from there.

I've read the support bullitin linked above, and I understand what is being said...
You will need to select the "Z Weather" menu type when creating a new menu item. Do not use the URL method of creating a menu item. This will generate the error above in Z Weather. Once the Z Weather menu item has been created, you can configure all the Z Weather settings specific to that menu item.

Where is this "Z Weather menu type" located? When I try to add a new menu item to any of my published menus, there is no "choice" called "Z Weather menu type". The Z Weather component admin page does not have any sort of menu item generator. I don't know where to go from here. I will try uninstalling and re-installing the newer component & module to see if this is an install problem.

Thanks for the quick response!

Problem 1: Component
When I try to access the component, either by menu item or via the link in the module, I am given the following error message:

Z Weather is not available from this page.
Please access Z Weather from a menu item instead.

I cannot access the component by either the menu item or module link. What do I need to change in order to open the component?

1 - In Joomla Admin, go to the menu you want to add the link to the weather component to.
2 - Choose "NEW" to add a new menu item to this menu
3 - Click on the "COMPONENT" link to create a new component menu item (yes, this is what you have to do)
4 - Name your new menu item (ie: "WEATHER") and choose Z WEATHER from the component list
5 - HIT THE APPLY BUTTON - The parameters for this Z Weather menu item will appear on the right side of the screen.
6 - Configure the parameters for this menu item as you desire, THEN HIT THE SAVE BUTTON

Problem 2: Module
The module works perfectly until I try to show information in the "Overlib with link". If I activate these fields, the information shows up in the module position itself upon page load instead of opening a pop-up box on mouse over.

In order for the OVERLIB pop-up to work properly, you can only have ONE location showing in the module. I was trying to show three different locations in one module. If you need to show multiple locations in the module, copy the module and show one location in each copy.

Hi Shane,

I'm glad you got it working. My tech note is for Joomla 1.5, which may be the cause of the confusion. I'll add additional info for Joomla 1.0 installs.

I've had multiple locations work with overlib before, but have not tested it with version 6. I'll look into it. It should work.
