I have libxml 2.7.1 (CPanel on CentOS) - what is my best option, downgrading libxml? Waiting for a libxml fix? Getting a fix here that will work around it?

I'm not sure. The bug report mentions installing libexpat,
which is what I'm going to try as soon as our web admin gets
here. I'll let you know how that works. I'd think an older
version of libxml should work as well.

It would be great to hear from the developer and see what he
thinks about this.

I don't think this bug is related to the problem discussed here. Z Weather uses a pure PHP XML parser, Domit. Joomla uses it too. The bug mentioned in the link is a C library, which I think is used in later versions of PHP as a built-in XML parser option.

If you are not seeing icons in your location manager, your hosting company may be blocking remote retrieval of data. You can verify if this is true by seeing if the Joomla feed module works on your site, which pulls XML data from remote sites in a similar way. You can also go to the "Help | System Info" menu in the administrator and look for the "allow_url_fopen" option. If this is disabled, then you won't be able to retrieve the NWS data on your server.

If your site is hosted on dreamhost.com, you are blocked from getting remote data. Here is a link to their wiki page about it:

That's not the case for me. allow_url_fopen is enabled and I am running my own server. Any other suggestions? I like the extension, it's just not working.

Thanks.

We just downgraded libxml to 2.6.32 and ZWeather now works.

Communication to the remote site was not being blocked before.
The XML coming back from the remote site looked fine, but
when it arrived in the zclass module it had been rewritten
to remove the < and >s.

I just opened a bug report as I'm now getting what seems to be this same problem. See this post:

I already checked that allow_url_fopen is enabled, but I do have a newer libxml now.
