If you are upgrading Zap Calendar from a previous release, follow these instructions for a smooth install.

Step 1: Backup your site and MySQL database

Backup your site to ensure you can return to your site's previous state just in case something goes wrong during the upgrade.

Step 2: Re-Install the Zap Calendar Component

For upgrading to version 2.0.7 or higher: Zap Calendar upgrades have become a whole lot easier. Starting with version 2.0.7, all plugins, modules and component are Joomla upgradeable. This means you can re-install any of these items without first uninstalling them from Joomla. In other words, plugin settings, custom templates and added category icons are all retained during the upgrade process. Beware if you have modified an existing theme in Zap Calendar, it will be replaced by the upgrade. If you plan on customizing an existing theme, you should copy it first to a new folder so the theme will not be overwritten by future installs.

For upgrading to a version prior to 2.0.7: Alternatively, you can uninstall the Zap Calendar component without losing any event data. However, you will lose any theme changes and Zap Calendar's global settings.  Use these steps to install the component:

1. Backup any theme changes (in component /themes folder) and any form changes (in component /forms folder)
2. Note Zap Calendar's global settings (only need if upgrading from a release prior to 2.0.5)
3. Uninstall previous Zap Calendar component (from "Extensions | Install/Uninstall" menu)
4. Install new Zap Calendar component (from "Extensions | Install/Uninstall" menu)
5. Reinstall modified themes and form changes, if any
6. Resave Zap Calendar's global settings as noted above (only need if upgrading from a release prior to 2.0.5)

Step 3: Re-Install Zap Calendar Modules

For upgrading to version 2.0.7 or higher: Re-install the modules without first uninstalling them. This will retain the module settings.

For upgrading to a version prior to 2.0.7: Any global module settings will be lost after an upgrade. Repeat these steps for each module:

1. Note module settings (from Module Manager)
   
2. Uninstall previous Zap Calendar module (from "Extensions | Install/Uninstall" menu)
3. Install new Zap Calendar module (from "Extensions | Install/Uninstall" menu)
4. Resave module settings as noted above

Step 4: Re-Install Zap Calendar Plugins

For upgrading to version 2.0.7 or higher: Re-install the plugins without first uninstalling them. This will retain the plugin settings.

For upgrading to a version prior to 2.0.7:Any global plugin settings will be lost after an upgrade. Repeat these steps for each plugin:

1. Note plugin settings (from Plugin Manager)
2. Uninstall previous Zap Calendar plugin (from "Extensions | Install/Uninstall" menu)
3. Install new Zap Calendar plugin (from "Extensions | Install/Uninstall" menu)
4. Enable plugin and resave plugin settings as noted above (from Plugin Manager)
5. Some plugins require an additional step to complete the install. For these plugins, go to the Admin Tools page to complete the install.
